Real story

I’m walking barefoot at 9.30 in the morning and I am not at the beach. I jump into a taxi with my brothers and i have a heavily used mask on my face in an attempt to save me from catching swine flu Im also covered in sweat and Im dead thirsty and I can’t drink or eat for another 9 hours or more.

I look at my brother next to me and he looks sick, really sick. My other brother is in the front seat breaking small talk with teh taxi driver and pointing out the way to our car parked at some car park which we forgot to memorize.

I Jump out of the taxi onto the hot sandy car park after losing our way and paying double for our stupidity. I enter my car barefoot, and the car won’t budge, I find i need to stop pushing on the peddle with my toe and place my whole barefoot to make it go.

I loved those Jamaican sandals that someone stole while i was praying, that’s why I’m barefoot its not a way of life.

My other brother is really sick now, he asks my brother is it ok that he can’t feel his hands? OK what about my tongue is it still there?he decides its better to get out of the car and sit on a curb in the heat, he is really sweating now and almost fainting. My other brother is keeping him company and asking him silly questions to keep him awake. My brother has been hit with a dehydration of the worst state.

We need water, fast. We drive out of the city and stop at a water seller and my bro goes down to buy, he doesn’t have enough to cover the 20Sr cost, he tries to haggle in a desperate voice, the seller refuses and he comes back for the Sr5 to get the water.

He splashes my brother in the back seat who by now is shivering and sweating to the max, we drive off and find a small store in a gas station and buy him some juice and cold water, he breaks his fasting and starts to feel better.

I look down at my feet and yes i am driving barefoot. Why did someone steal my Jamaican sandals? Is it not the holiest place in the muslim world? doesn’t make a difference, I’m still barefoot and thirsty.

We drive past an accident where the car has overturned, poor soul I wish he made it out of that sight alive, and forget my barefoot and thank god I’m alive and in one piece.

My brothers start to recap the events of this amazing day, a day where we all performed Omra in one of our holy month’s. The fast paced events that took place in the last 15 minutes where like a twist in a movie, only one comes to mind, but I dare not say!

I wake up later the same day in my brothers bed with a cat walking all over me trying to figure out who this strange person is? I race to my daughter at home to make it back to my parents home to break my fasting and indulge in a drinking contest with my brothers, what a day I say.

So I guess now I have an excuse to make it back to montego bay Jamaica one day.
