Evolution of the car Key

Have you ever wondered why there used to be two keys for each car sold in the world? Well have we come a long way since. If you owned a car the thing called “peace of mind” was an option. You would have to fiddle around and try several keys before you find the one that opens the trunk or the front glove compartment!
Why not make keys that dissolve after a year? Well I guess it was too early for me to complain then, the first cars had no keys, they cranked them from the front.
- Cadillac used to try and be unique and give you 2 gold plated keys, woo cool, still two!
- Then I guess came the germans proved their point with a one key car, Voila.
- The world was amazed and suddenly thought! Hey the Germans must be onto something? let’s all make one key cars.
- Suddenly car keys had little lights that could show you where to place the key, instead of scratch the paint around it.
- Then someone said “ will you look at that!, Why not put lights under the door handles? and the light key was history.
- Along came the key that could do many things. This Key could open the compartment inside the car, the other one could pop the trunk.
- Man made great strides forward when the multi function key came out later in the century, long after Henry Ford said Black was the only color available, but you can still have any other color( When we make them). This key could unlock the car, pop the trunk, lock the doors, show a little light to show you more just under the door mirrors, some could even honk your horn to scare off the little brats and cats.
- As man made cars became more competitive, someone decided to give you a key, but let you get in the car with keyless entry! wow! you get close to the car and it opens up as if it knows you, well it does. Inside these cars you push a button and your off.
- The keys were BIg now they are smaller, then they made them BIG again.
- Some are square with no key apparent, you press a button and out comes the key!
- Then came the thumb print entry.
- The world is suddenly introduced to eye recognition entry.
- Fast forward and the car automatically comes to you when you think car, in your after sales brain implanted key.
Do you think soon we will get cars with DNA recognition starting capabilities? Why was the key invented? Don’t they leave their cars open in movies? Ok so people do actually steal our cars, so we lock them. Did you see the amount of technology that goes into keys today, remember that scene in gone in 60 seconds, the one about the mercedes keys, far out!.
So keys do evolve, like many other things in life. As we demand more, the smart makers make the move. In some cases they exceed our expectations, those are the leaders of today in any given industry.
Remember how it was an option to have cup holders in cars?

I used to think that a brain should be equipped with a very advanced ship for the person to be creative. Really I thought that some are porn wit it while others are less fortunate. Later I discovered that anybody can be innovative, just set yourself free and release your thinking.
One of the main reasons behind Google success is their culture that encourages people and empowers freedom. Sure we all have heard about many companies earning or cost savings millions and billions from a simple worker suggestion .I wish if our institutions (companies , schools …) would implement effective suggestion programs that actually sees the light and is based on voting. Oh i wish if we would allow children to express themselves instead of suppressing them in our educational conrers.
I have seen resistance for anything new,,, and have seen how would people actually abuse suggestion programs. My only question, are we ready for innovation (can we accept new ideas, proposed changes, respect different views)? Why do we seem to abuse every invetnion (mobile camera, internet …)?
Innovative topic & Innovative way of writting!
As always doodi, thank you for your input, without us sharing ideas my attempts to write what is on my mind will end where they started.
You talk about the subject so romantically.I love that enthusiasm in your words. It seems to me the growing number of normal and natural ways of free thinking and creative juice flow methods are on the rise. You mentioned Google, now forget the whole big company for a while and imagine the simplicity of the idea; A search engine. type in anything and get everything! the creative powers of the leaders and originators of the idea will continue to flood the young peoples ideas till the last drop. They empower their creativity with tools to get ahead, not block. We on the other side of the world have to look at the bright side of things, we too are going and have started to live an extraordinary new life pattern.
Let me be frank with you, In order to see the movement of a country you need to see the larger scale models in the making, then trickle down the effect to where we are on a micro level. So to give you a rather grand example, King Abdallah new state of the art college, now thats a statement!
That should give you a general feel of the possibilities to new and improved creative minds to make us pass the coming exciting and rewarding times. Who said change was easy? only if you and your family lived on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean would you have a fast change strategy, actually it could also be hard, with family and all the little details.
So going back to the subject, in my opinion since there are people like you and me, total strangers tackling ideas like this, trust me there are thousands more out there doing there bit. Eventually what right is right and evolution is inevitable.
Actually yesterday I was trying to poll once more something like the suggestion program as a way to encourage staff innovation. What I saw was bloody awful, there was such a program before. Why did the company killed it, despite the fact that such programs are known to be cost saving? (IBM earned millions from just one of suggested ideas) Looking back through the archives, yes I saw a couple of good ideas. I saw also well established program (process, policy, interaction …) but I also saw the court cases and the amounts the company lost (YEAH LOST) from our folks abusing this program.
Now no wonder why it was killed? And yes you are right it takes time to change otherwise I would not have asked “r we ready”.
Yes we have all seen so many videos and articles related to the KAUST, ad yes we all have seen many Mobile Cam’s ads when it first started. How did that end (what is the only use 4 it here), or let me ask how the rest of our univerties are doing (or do you think thier start was not just right). No comment.
