I basically watch anything that comes flying my way, I give everything a chance once or twice, so later I found I am more into comedy in any form or subject. Never was a horror movie guy, I love thriller to an extent, Espionage big time, action, romantic comedy and a long list, which makes me feel I am one of two things: 1) tasteless 2) wide scoped , let me say I’m a bit of both.

Ever since we were kids, the Bond brand was there, with all the action, cars, technology and babes, destinations, story, the works. I remember begging my mom to buy me the James Bond white Lotus that spits rockets from the trunk, awesome..Thank you mom!.

It seems like the writer checked out what people like in life & movies and said to himself with a bit of luck, some special effects I can bring it all together, I think it was Ian Flemmings stories, who wrote some of his best work in Jamaica.

Suddenly the movie becomes a hit amongst viewers worldwide, and when you see someone attempting the impossible we tell him to cool down Mr. Bond, for his fantasia land adventures and survival techniques, “actually never die ones” to be precise, taking down the  enemies of the USA & Great Britain in stealth mode.

pixar-disney-up-movie-poster-02UP! by Walt disney is another breakthrough after NEMO in my opinion. Back then it was hard to imagine how they pulled off NEMO with all that amazing graphic work, it took them 5 years of hard work and intensive reviews to come up with that masterpiece. You need vision, team work, dedication and a true meaning to what you do for things like those blockbusters to take place.

Over the past decades, it seemed like nothing will top Mickey Mouse and his crew, Tom & Jerry and Popeye, OK the Road Runner & the catch the pigeon one also, woody woodpecker, Scooby Doo . But having a benchmark breaking mindset at these studios has made it happen. We now watch cartoons that are more real than animational. They can actually translate what goes on at the depths of the sea with the sounds into a one of a kind movie, that is not real!

People lately have pointed out to me that Walt Disney is part of the Big Thing or conspiracy to rule the world thinking, well what do you know? I still am in love with cartoons and what they do to us, I still love movies and how they transcend us into the world of Happy land or Action land. Walt’s moto was “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

When you enter Disney land/world you get this child like sensation, this feeling of younger years, you look into the children’s eyes and they seem to glitter with excitement and life, jumping up and down and shocked that such cartoons are actually real!

Going back to “Up!” and how they translated a young boys dream to travel to the destination of choice with his childhood love was impeccable. To have a floating house that can fly by a bunch of Balloons, pure genius. Have him meet his company of three, hilarious characters. The graphics, the dialogue, the attention to the smallest details…SQUIRL! was impossible to imagine or predict, I cracked up, and loved the journey.

I take my movies seriousely, over the years they have slipped down to a few categories, but what always gets me excited is the new cartoons, they really take you away. It seems and feels like every person involved with the creation was a kid, cause only a kid could have that imagination. When you want to simplify things and get the naked truth, all you have to do is be a Kid again, or ask a Kid. They know best, they have not been contaminated, they are purely pure on an adventure, and if they are not, they are planning the next.

Its these eye openers that really get you back to reality in a wonderful imaginative colorful manner.

The laughs & giggles are my ammunition that I soak in to face life’s harsh weather, they always save me, and they always come in full dosage form. To see the world through children’s eyes in every aspect is a true blessing and I thank every little soul out there for it. If it was not for children, the big mighty arm of the movie industry would have forgotten us older bunch .

I am aware of the hidden messages they send through their blockbusters, but who said you can’t block what you don’t want and guide the young ones.Strip away the negatives and cherish those laughs and moments for you never know when you need them most.

Can’t wait to see what they have in store for me at Disney and Pixar!

Making cartoons means very hard work at every step of the way, but creating a successful cartoon character is the hardest work of all. Joseph Barbera
