Body Language

“Oh Mommy look I can’t believe it a book on body language!” said the 10 year old filipino girl to her mother in joy. “ put that back and lets go” snapped the mother!

Now hear me out people, this is a 10 or maximum 11 year old girl as smart as they get begging to buy a book on body language! I know 40 year olds who think that body language is some sort of pornography movement.

Now if this girl is 10 and wants to educate herself on one of the most important communication tools known to mankind, I want to know what she will be reading in a few years from now. I wish I could keep track of such genius minds and try to keep up.

Knowing myself, and my community and how you are not supposed to talk to strangers and everything else I couldn’t help but jump on the bandwagon and congratulate the mother on such a wonderful child. The mother astonished at my remark, called the girl and told her to say thank you! what?? I didn’t want a Thank you! I wanted her to buy her the little book of body language! They strolled away onto the cashier with whatever the mother wanted, as they vanished in the crowd I could see the little girl looking towards me, as if to say thank you for trying, stranger.

Sometimes I do get angry and rumble inside when I see little children wanting to take it to the next level and their parents put them on hold, “ wait all our operators are busy, your call is important to us..blah blah blah…”

Why did I mention the nationality at the start of the article? to show you how far the levels of education are from one country to the other. Now since this mother is here in Saudi Arabia with her children, it means she too is educated, could be a doctor or nurse? you never know, but her children are fine and getting a good education.

Now here’s the punch line: We live in a relatively rich country where the sight of a maid/helper/nanny/driver with young and old couples is the norm. These great people come from all around the world but in most cases Asia( Philippines/Indonesia/Sri Lanka)…etc.

They come due to economic reasons and poor quality of life and other factors, we all travel to get a better level of living when we can’t find anything home.

They are people who have families back home, they are people that did graduate from a college, they are people that have dreams, they are people that want what you want for your children, they are building their homes or families, whatever it is, they are doing their best. I salute them for leaving their families and living with total strangers for a couple of years or a decade! just to get their children through college.

I ask you this dear Arabs in particular, when was the last time your child asked for a book that teaches you body language? and not the latest playstation 3 game?

Don’t get me wrong I have children of my own and face the same issues, we still have time to guide them and educate them. Brian Tracy has an important piece of information for you” everything you know today that you have learned will be obsolete in 2.5 years, so if you are a mechanic then update your knowledge, if you are a doctor, stay informed, If you are in Sales, read more” Now that is based on todays level of speed, what will happen when our 9 year olds are in their 20’s?30’s and are not used to re-educating themselves on an ongoing basis? who will be to blame?

Wake up smell the coffee! Just like you feed them the best food, and buy them the best clothes and toys, feed their hungry little brains in a respectful manner.

Nice! Oh how I admire the way Filipinos raise their children with. A simple comparison between their kids and ours made me look up to them. I wish I can raise my kids one day on their footsteps.
